The first Palestinians with dual citizenship left the Gaza Strip for Egypt on Wednesday, according to media reports.
An official in the Egyptian authorities supervising the Rafah crossing announced, requesting anonymity, “The first batch of foreign passport holders crossed into Egypt through the Rafah crossing today” on Wednesday.
Earlier, Agence France-Presse quoted an Egyptian official as saying, on Wednesday, that the first group of Palestinians with dual nationalities would “exit” from Gaza to Egypt on Wednesday.
Reuters quoted an unnamed source as saying, “The agreement to open the Rafah crossing is not linked to other matters under negotiation, such as the release of detainees or a truce.”
British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said, in a post on the X website, that the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip is expected to open today, Wednesday.
“The Rafah crossing will likely be opened today for the first group of foreign nationals,” he wrote, according to Reuters.
He added, “British teams are preparing to assist British citizens as soon as they are able to leave. It is essential that life-saving humanitarian aid is able to enter Gaza as quickly as possible.”

A source told Reuters earlier on Wednesday that “there is no timetable for how long the Rafah crossing will remain open for evacuation.”
The number of Americans in the Gaza Strip is estimated at between 500 and 600, most of whom were visiting their families, but “the bombing of the Rafah crossing on the Palestinian side more than once prevented them from leaving,” according to the Washington Post.
The announced regulations included the names of citizens of Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Indonesia, Jordan, Finland, the Czech Republic and Japan.
