As VG wrote last week, the Ingebrigtsen brothers have postponed their planned altitude stay in the Sierra Nevada. The announcement came after the brothers went to the media and told their version of the family conflict with dad and former coach Gjert.
After the brothers accused their father of being controlling and using physical violence and threats as part of their upbringing, Gjert has also been reported to the police by a family member for violence in close relationships.
Gjert Ingebrigtsen, via his lawyer John Christian Elden, has denied having been violent.
Gjert doesn’t get to know
– Are you okay?
Dagbladet has this week been in contact with the Ingebrigtsen brothers’ agent Daniel Wessfeldt. He points out that there is no drama surrounding the delay in staying at altitude.
– They travel at different times. Whether and when they will travel has not been completely determined, Wessfeldt replies.

– What is the reason for their waiting?
– They do exactly as they want. They do not follow other people’s wishes and decide freely for themselves.
Dagbladet specifically asks about Jakob Ingebrigtsen, whom Wessfeldt confirms is scheduled to participate in the cross-country European Championships in December.
Got too personal
– It may be because he has married, is building a house and wants to be at home for a while. In the end, he’ll have to go up high anyway to do the job, the agent replies.
– How are they now?
– As I interpret them, they are fine. They take care of what they have to, says Wessfeldt to Dagbladet.
SORRY: On Thursday, VG published a letter from the running brothers Ingebrigtsen, in which they say they experienced being exposed to violence while growing up by their father, Gjert Ingebrigtsen. The latter denies the accusations through his lawyer John Christian Elden. During Thursday’s Dagsrevyen broadcast on NRK, the case became a topic. There, NRK commentator Jan Petter Saltvedt came out harshly against the running brothers’ father. NRK now apologizes for the feature. Reporter: Edward Stenlund. Video: NRK Show more
– Extremely tough
Dagbladet has spoken to the well-known American athletics reporter Jonathan Gault, who works for Lets Run.
He says he was surprised, but understands that the brothers chose to come out with their story.
Reacts after this
He says that the family conflict and the icy atmosphere between the Ingebrigtsen brothers and Narve Gilje Nordås is something that also gets a lot of attention in the USA.
From the outside, he himself experienced the atmosphere between Jakob and Narve as icy cold during the WC in Budapest.

– Now that we know how the results were, how do you assess their performance in light of the noise that was in the media during the championship, and which has escalated further afterwards?
– I think it was incredibly impressive from both athletes. Jakob has obviously had his share of struggles off the track and field, but on the field he has performed better than ever. It is impressive what he has managed to achieve.
Reveals grip: – Bothers me
– I am also impressed by Narve. This is the best season of his career and he has reached a whole new level. I think the noise during the championship did not contribute positively. What Jakob is doing seems more serious, but that both delivered the results they did is very impressive, replies Gault.
The reporter says that he hopes for the athletes that the conflict is played down in the media so that they can focus more on running. But he doubts anyway that Jakob’s performance will suffer in 2024, when there are both the EC and the Olympics.
– High on myself
– Anyone who reaches Jakob’s level must be extremely tough mentally. What we have seen of him in the last two years only makes it all the more impressive. “I knew he was a tough guy mentally and he’s always been very confident, but to see him continue to perform at this level with all the buzz and noise off the field just makes it all very impressive,” concludes Gault.
