England’s Alex Greenwood clashed with Belgium’s Jassina Blom.

Then ugly scenes unfolded in the Olympic qualifying meeting when Greenwood was treated on the field for over ten minutes, given oxygen and strapped to a stretcher.

England later came with reassuring news.

Alex Greenwood stepped in without hesitation to head a ball away when she collided with Jassina Blom.

The impact took a heavy toll on Greenwood, who lay motionless.

Six paramedics were on the pitch to attend to Greenwood who received care for over ten minutes. She received, among other things, oxygen and a neck collar. Finally, she was strapped onto a stretcher and carried away to a standing ovation from the arena, reports say Sky Sports.

Hug her hand

As she was carried away, several teammates, including Georgia Stanway and Lucy Bronze, were there to hug her hand.

The incident occurred after around 20 minutes of play in the Olympic qualifying match. The English national team later communicated via X a reassuring message.

“Alex Greenwood is conscious and talking. She is being cared for by our medical team,” writes the national team.

May miss OS

England lost to Belgium 2–3 after Tessa Wullaert’s penalty in the 85th minute.
