Household stress is not a trigger for the onset of a stroke, but prolonged depression or anxiety can lead to it. Neurologist at the Regional Clinical Hospital Vladislav Sevryuk told Klops what you need to pay attention to in order to prevent a heart attack.
The scourge of our time is clinical melancholy, which can harm physical health.
We are accustomed to the fact that stress is the cause of many diseases. But the neurologist says that everyday nervous tension and neurotic disorders should be separated. Severe forms of stress may well cause a heart attack.
“We are already looking at affective disorders such as depression or anxiety disorder. It would be more correct to say that stress is a general term, it does not correlate with the personality lately. When we talk about depression, about anxiety, people understand it more clearly. And these disorders can be risk factors for stroke,” says Sevryuk.
Causes of stroke
diabetes; obesity, blood clotting disorder (thrombophilia); high blood pressure; varicose veins; atrial fibrillation; atherosclerosis.
Factors leading to a high risk of attack
alcohol; smoking; addiction.
Who gets sick more often?
The doctor noted that the peak incidence occurs at 60-80 years of age due to the fact that during this period chronic diseases move to the stage of irreversible consequences.
“For example, hypertension. At the age of 40, it is detected during medical examination. And if there is some kind of inadequate treatment or low patient adherence to therapy, then hypertension progresses. It has three stages. The first stage, when this is a minor violation, that is, an increase in pressure. The second stage is significant changes in the body. And at the third stage, damage to the heart, kidneys, and brain already occurs. And as the finale of hypertension, a stroke occurs. The interval from detection to reaching a severe stage of a chronic disease takes 20 years. So it turns out that on average the peak incidence is 60-80 years,” explained Vladislav.
There is no difference between male and female gender: the same number of patients are admitted to the hospital. Sevryuk also dispelled the myth that athletes are at risk for stroke. In his opinion, they are examined more intensively and in detail than as part of a regular medical examination. As a rule, if an athlete is healthy, then there are no risks for him.
List of required diagnostics
It is recommended to undergo a medical diagnosis every year to prevent the risk of strokes. During the examination, you must undergo a series of tests that will determine whether you have hypertension, coronary heart disease or diabetes. It is also worth passing the following laboratory tests:
coagulogram – a study that reveals changes in blood clotting; hematology blood coagulation panel; protein C; homocysteine; antibodies to phospholipids.
“If none of the above is found, that’s good, but these diseases need to be monitored every year. To understand whether you have diabetes or not, we donate blood glucose every year, preferably every six months. To understand whether there is hypertension, we measure the pressure. It is necessary to be tested for hereditary thrombophilia, that is, a predisposition to blood clots. It is multifactorial, there is also a violation of folic acid metabolism, a violation of lipid metabolism,” the neurologist specified.
Vladislav Sevryuk advised to pay attention to such symptoms as: constant headache, dizziness, any pain syndromes in the body, the appearance of unusual discomfort in the chest. The main thing is to listen to your feelings and consult a doctor as soon as you notice problems in your body’s functioning.
