The English press announced that the Premier League launched an investigation into the hiring of Willian y Samuel Eto’o in 2013 when the team was owned by Roman Abramovich.

Irregularities are alleged after payments were made to “Russian entities” that were separate from any transfer fees, in addition to a payment to Eto’o’s family.

The Times newspaper publishes that the complaint was made by the new owners of the “Blues” after carrying out an internal audit, who alerted the directors of the Premier League as well as UEFA.

If found guilty of breaking the rules, the Premier League could impose sanctions on the club.

That could include a fine or even a points deduction, as Chelsea agreed to a payment of around $10 million with UEFA over “cases of potentially incomplete financial reporting under the club’s previous ownership.”

Chelsea is currently below the middle of the table with 12 points out of a possible 30 and with a reduction it would border on the relegation spots.
