The Adolfo Suárez Regional Library carried out 1,015 book loans last September, of which 566 were to adult users and 449 to child users.

In addition, 516 new readers were registered last year. It should be noted that the majority, 271, were minors.

“Although it may seem like a lie, the children’s audience is very important. Note that, of the 998 active borrowers we had last year, 482 were children or youth. We are obtaining very good results and the figures show that the library is in fashion. Furthermore, we believe that this year we are going to beat our record,” says its manager, Ana María Valle.

The Adolfo Suárez Regional Library, located on Guadalcobacín Street, has a collection of more than 24,000 titles available for loan and almost 10,000 registered readers.

With an average of between 3,500 and 4,000 monthly users, last year there were 40,900 visits to this space to obtain some of the services it offers.

The building has two floors: the upper one is known as “the floor of silence” since it is more aimed at individual study and it contains the warehouse and those titles related to different subjects ranging from psychology, philosophy, sciences. applied or social to art, geography, history, poetry or theater, among others.

The lower floor is divided into different spaces. On the one hand, users can have shared work rooms, as well as different computers with internet access. On the other hand, there is the children’s room, a space dedicated to manga and the youth area, as well as a Violet Point and a novelties space. All the adult narrative is also located on this ground floor, in addition to other audiovisual formats, music and the local background.

“Libraries are spaces for information and training, so they must offer a series of services for public use that go beyond traditional book loans. In fact, soon we will have a mentor classroom,” Valle highlighted.

The librarian has also emphasized the importance of having the bibliographic collection updated:

“In 2021 they granted us a subsidy from the Junta de Andalucía to buy copies from both bookstores and publishers. In 2022 we obtained another allocation from the European Next Generation funds, with which we have been able to expand and modernize the catalogue.”

That is why Valle asks users not to donate those titles whose publication date is before the year 2000.
