Jakarta –
Badminton World Federation (BWF) has released the latest ranking of the world’s top players after French Open 2023. Several Red and White athletes experienced a jump in rankings, including Jonathan Christie.
Indonesia managed to win one title and was runner up in the BWF Super 750 French Open tournament which took place 24-29 October 2023. Jonathan won his first title at that level.
He became champion after eliminating Li Shi Feng in the final round. The fruit of his success, now Jonathan Christie received a two-level increase in the world ranking list released by BWF on its website as of October 31 2023.
Jojo, as he is affectionately known, is in fourth place thanks to his success in French Open 2023. Previously he was ranked sixth.
Jonatan Christie’s rise in ranking was accompanied by the decline of Kodai Naraoka (Japan) and Kunlavut Vitidsarn (Thailand), who were previously in third and fourth place. The third position is now occupied by Li Shi Feng (China), just below Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in second position.
Apart from winning the title, Indonesia also won runner-up in the men’s doubles bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri at the 2023 French Open. This position also brought them into the top 10 of the best men’s doubles at BWF.
Bagas/Fikri, who entered the final in two consecutive tournaments, in Denmark and France, rose two places from the previous position in 12th last week. An increase was also achieved by Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan who rose to 9th position this week. This makes Indonesian men’s doubles dominate again in the top 10 of the world ranking.
Along with the results of French Open 2023, the men’s doubles ranking list for other countries has also undergone changes. Sakwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty are no longer kings of men’s doubles. The Indian pair dropped drastically to fifth place this week.
Their position was replaced by the Chinese pair, Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang with 89991 points. Followed by Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik (Malaysia) in second place and Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen (Denmark) in third place. Meanwhile, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto remained in fourth place.
Moving on to the women’s doubles sector, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti were also not left behind. Their success in reaching the semifinals of the French Open meant they rose two places from their previous position of eighth with 77,443 points.
