Two residents of South Tangerang City, Banten, were confirmed positive for the infection monkey pox (monkeypox/mpox). Both have now been isolated and under monitoring.
Head of the South Tangerang City Health Service (Dinkes) Allin Hendalin said the two patients were still being treated in the isolation room. They were confirmed to have experienced Mpox symptoms since Monday (30/10).
“There are no comorbidities. The current condition has been treated, isolated, there are no complaints. His close contact is monitored by the local health center,” he said as reported BetweenTuesday (31/10/2023).
He explained that from the findings of the first case in the South Tangerang area, the two male residents were known to be 24 and 31 years old. They, he said, experienced symptoms of fever, lesions on their hands, face and body.
“The first patient has only lived in South Tangerang City for 10 months, his ID card is outside South Tangerang, he is 24 years old. The second case is a man whose residence and ID card are South Tangerang City, he is 31 years old,” he said.
With the discovery of the Mpox case, his party is prioritizing epidemiological investigations of the families of monkey pox sufferers to reveal the source of the infection.
“The South Tangerang City Government urges the public not to panic and remain alert monkeypox “by improving clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) and improving health protocols,” he said.
He said, as a form of early preparedness and response to suspected cases of monkey pox, the South Tangerang City Government has carried out outreach, education to health workers and the public about monkey pox, as well as strengthening the existing surveillance system to carry out investigations and contact tracing.
“If you experience symptoms monkeypox, “immediately go to a health service facility or hospital to receive symptomatic and supportive treatment to relieve existing symptoms and prevent secondary infections,” he said.
He also confirmed that in this case the hospital in South Tangerang City was now ready to treat patients monkeypox by providing guidelines for the prevention and control of infectious diseases for health workers.
“As for patient care monkeypox, Apart from being given treatment, the patient will be isolated either in self-isolation or in hospital. “There is no need for an isolation room like COVID-19 patients,” he said.
Mpox case in Indonesia
Previously, Head of the Ministry of Health’s Communications and Public Services Bureau, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said that cases of monkey pox in Indonesia had increased to 21 from the previous 16 cases.
“There are additional cases, now there are 21 cases in DKI Jakarta, South Tangerang and Bandung,” he said.
The number of cases has increased from the report as of October 27 2023, reaching 17 cases, all of which came from DKI Jakarta.
Nadia said that the results of close contact tracing of the 21 additional cases were all still negative.
“The contact results are still negative,” he said.
