About a thousand people gathered in the heart of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires on Sunday dressed as Spider-Man. The aim was to break a world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as the superhero. The organization is confident that it has been successful, but official recognition from Guinness World Records has not yet been achieved. This is reported by the Reuters news agency.

Argentinian Uki Deane organized the meeting via Instagram. The influencer wanted to break the existing record – held by Malaysia. They arrived there in June 685 people dressed as Spider-Man together.

Deane said he was confident of taking the Guinness World Records title with the turnout at the famous obelisk. There was a large crowd of people wearing tight-fitting blue costumes and the signature red masks. “I wanted to gather 700 people and by our count there are many more. We already have more than a thousand signatures,” he told reporters at the event. “It’s crazy what Spider-Man is doing, it makes me very happy,” the 33-year-old added.

Evidence
Guinness World Records did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters news agency. Deane asked all participants to sign their names and have their photos taken as proof for Guinness.
The atmosphere at the obelisk was also excellent. The superhero look-alikes, dressed as the character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, clapped and sang happily during the sunny afternoon. One participant complemented the Spider-Man costume with the blue and white striped Argentina football jersey, while another wore a suit with a red tie to match the superhero mask.
Juan Menchon, a 25-year-old soccer coach, said he felt empowered by the Spider-Man outfit. “I’m very shy and the mask gives me a lot of freedom to speak up and express myself,” he said. Others agreed with the costume’s transformative powers. Matias Cones, 18, noted: “As Stan Lee says, anyone can put on the mask.”
