“The term ‘senility’, like ‘sclerosis’, is a generalized ‘folk’ name for cognitive impairments that manifest themselves in old age,” neurologist and parkinsonologist Maxim Andreev told Doctor Peter. “The clearest and most common examples of these diseases are cerebrovascular diseases (small vessel disease, or microangiopathy due to hypertension, diabetes, and the consequences of strokes) and Alzheimer’s disease.”
