Police in the American city of Tampa, Florida, have arrested a 22-year-old man after a shooting that left two people dead and 18 people injured. Another shooter was also involved, but as far as we know he has not yet been arrested.
The shooting took place in a street where many people were already celebrating Halloween. According to the police, the reason was a fight between two groups. One person died on the spot, another died later in hospital. Five of the injured are still in hospital. They are not in mortal danger.
Innocent people
A video shows how around 3 a.m. on the night of Saturday to Sunday, people dressed up in costumes were partying on the street in a neighborhood with many bars. About twelve shots ring out, followed by about eight more.
Then people run away and some take shelter behind metal tables. A police spokesperson told Reuters that “hundreds of innocent people were in the middle of the fight between the two groups.”
‘Enough police on the ground’
Democratic Mayor of Tampa Jane Castor says there were plenty of police on the scene. She compares the shooting to previous shootings in the United States.
According to her, “poor split-second decisions by people and the ease of obtaining firearms are responsible for these types of incidents that occur almost every day.”
