In a message spread on social media, the Jewish Voice for Peace group, self-defined as the largest progressive anti-Zionist organization in the world, declared that “thousands of Jews and allies” were organizing a protest at Grand Central Station and that they were going to take the main lobby.

The protest began around 6:00 p.m. (local time) and given the large number of people gathered there, the city authorities were forced to deploy a strong police force that restricted access to the building and only allowed passengers with travel tickets to pass.

“We refuse to allow genocide to be carried out in our name,” said organizers, who posted photos of a staggering number of people in the train station’s main concourse wearing black T-shirts with messages such as “cease fire now.” ” or “not in our name.”

On this same day, the UN General Assembly approved, with the support of an overwhelming majority, a resolution demanding “the cessation of hostilities” in Gaza; the first to be decreed by a United Nations body after four failed attempts by the Security Council.

The initiative was only opposed by representatives of Israel, the United States and countries such as Paraguay, Guatemala and some states in the Asia-Pacific region. Unexpectedly, the United Kingdom chose to abstain, despite being an ally of Israel and providing support to Washington in this crisis.

For its part, Israel also announced that it is going to extend and deepen its ground operations against the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip, where 2 million people currently live who have been completely isolated due to heavy bombing and the cutting of telecommunications services.

According to data from the Gaza Ministry of Health, the victims of the Zionist attacks amount to 7,326 dead and 18,967 injured, in retaliation for the surprise attacks by the armed wing of Hamas on October 7, in which around 1,400 people died and more. Two hundred were kidnapped.
