In the crisis of ideologies that is experienced in Chile and in the world, it is essential to renew transformative thinking. Without solid thinking and an ideology adjusted to the times we live in, it is difficult to challenge a rising extreme right, protector of inequalities and injustices, which even dares to install its conservative ideology in the new constitutional proposal, which shamelessly aims to the involution of social rights, along with the decline of democracy itself.
The challenges of the present time demand that the four forces brought together until now in the Wide Front put aside small differences and enhance their coincidences to build a single political organization, capable of responding more effectively the transformative demands of our people.
The process of transition to democracy was unable to meet the demands equality and social justice, delivering decisions on education, health and social security to the market. At the same time, the subsidiary State and the decision to radically open up to the world economy reduced the industry to a minimum, which weakened the labor movementdestroyed the industry, spreading precarious employment and informality.
The thesis of “growth with poverty reduction” (from the right and “democratic socialism”) I multiply the wealth of the 1% of the big businessmen and, what is more serious, subordinated a large part of the political class to their interests, including the traditional left.
Thus, the same generation that governed with Allende and that carried out the transition from dictatorship to democracy he had no will to end neoliberalismaccepting injustices and inequalities.
Starting in 2011, politics took a transcendent and generational turn. The young university students lit the spark of the transformations. It was the beginning of the fight against the neoliberal model. The mobilizations in favor of free and decent education quickly spread to feminist, environmentalist, territorial demands, against the AFP and for decent health.
In the midst of growing mobilizations, which reached their culmination in the rebellion of 18-Oa new leadership emerged in Chilean politics, to which dissidents from the traditional left parties gradually joined, especially from the Socialist Partydissatisfied with a transition that did not respond to citizen demands or their own principles and historical program.
The young people of Democratic Revolution (RD) and Social Convergence (CS), born in the universities, formed the Wide Front (FA), which is subsequently folded Common and recently Socialist Platform (PFS). These four organizations have similar ideas, a socialist identity and also the will to transform Chilean society, and they are the main support of the Chilean government.President Boric.
However, these ideas of transformation, also contained in the government program have been systematically blocked by a right, enlarged with the “republicans”, who have also recently built a constitutional proposal that deepens neoliberalism and that establishes an unacceptable conservative regression in the cultural sphere. Unfortunately, the right has received, in some cases, the support of sectors of “democratic socialism”, mainly senators, who do not hesitate to question government initiatives.
Consequently, the initiative of form a single party of the left and Socialism appears as an indispensable response in defense of the transformation proposals raised in President Boric’s government program and in defense of the conservative threats from the far right, which tries to end the rights won by citizens. Also a solid left-wing party, with a single direction, should be a brake on demobilizing centrism of “democratic socialism” and opportunism of the People’s Party (CEO).
The task of building a left without fragmentations is not only a temporary matter, but also (as the PS did in 1933), it must be capable of define principles and a leftist and socialist programable to overcome neoliberal capitalismensure the establishment of a social and democratic State of law, which offers universal social guarantees, and have the capacity to boost an industrial economy in which productive development ends informality and ensures decent work for Chileans

The lack of political will of the Concertación, the binomialism and the counter-majority enclaves of the Pinochet-Guzmán Constitution prevented the economic, social, environmental, territorial and world of work changes that were essential to advance development. These tasks must be at the center of this new unified left and socialist. To all this we must add today an unwavering commitment to feminism and the end of all forms of oppression of women and sexual diversity.
Only a united left, in dialogue with the social world, will be able to ensure the transformations that our country demands and, at the same time, confront the extreme right and opportunist populism without hesitation. Building a new left-wing and socialist political formation is the task of the moment; It is the guarantee of solid support for President Boric and the government’s transformative agenda.
