Queen Elizabeth’s Range Rover with a Majestic Past: Up for Auction

The royal donning is being auctioned off in November, after a car collector accidentally discovered its special past.

One of Queen Elizabeth’s trusty Range Rovers has appeared at an auction at the auction house Iconic Auctioneers under the title: “A Range Rover with a majestic past”.

The British four-wheel drive is a 2004 model and has over 160,000 kilometers on the odometer.

The Queen has driven a number of Land Rovers over the years, but in recent years has, among other things, been seen driving this third-generation Range Rover L322. Often with a mounted Labrador Retriever on the hood.

The Queen has surprised many by driving around in these cars herself, without a driver. During former US President Barack Obama’s visit to Windsor Castle in 2016, the Queen and Prince Philip surprised the US First Family with a drive around the grounds. Something Obama has joked about afterwards.

Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday, September 8, 2022, after sitting on the British throne for 70 years.

Observant owner discovered the car’s past

The auction house that will now sell the car advertises that it is equipped with a number of details that were specifically chosen to best suit the Queen’s needs. As a handle to make it easier to get in and out of the car.

Several media outlets have mentioned the sale of the car. Among them The Telegraph.

They write that it was an observant car collector who discovered that the car had possibly previously belonged to the queen. The car collector became suspicious when he saw all the upgrades that had been done to the car, including hidden lights similar to those seen on unmarked police cars.

A guide price of £50,000 to £60,000 has been set for the vehicle.

– In absolutely excellent condition and with confirmed royal ownership, this is a Range Rover that has, and will continue to stand out from the crowd, Iconic Auctioneers writes in the ad.

Confirmed ownership

To demonstrably link the car to the queen, and to have the car’s special past confirmed, has proven to be not entirely easy. But now the auction house believes it has finally been confirmed that the car’s former owner is the queen herself.

– Attempts have previously been made to clarify previous ownership with various authorities, but as with all vehicles of this nature, it is almost impossible to achieve a result, they write.

Happily, however, video footage has now been found of Queen Elizabeth driving this particular Range Rover, where the number plate is clearly visible, ending previous assumptions and confirming its origin. Copies of the video are available upon request, they continue.
