The Fronton Series finals, co-organized by the Fronton Series association and the Les Aiglons club, took place this Saturday at noon at the left wall El Hogar d’Anglet. The disciplines: paleta leather and pala corta. The public witnessed two high-level games where the teams went blow for blow.

The leather paleta players opened the ball. The French Lucas Hourçourigaray and Benoît Chatellier had a complicated start to the match against the Spaniards Ruben Ayarra and Emiliano Skufca. Trailing 5-0 from the start, Hourçourigaray-Chatellier faced a rampart. As good in defense as in attack, Ayarra-Skufca made few mistakes. Difficult for the French to find the fault in this first round which they lost largely (15-5).

In the second round, they put up better resistance and tied the game up to 9 all. Ayarra-Skufca were able to make the difference in the home straight to win (15-10).

Combat

Next, the pala corta final was hotly contested between Justin Dardenne-Imanol Perez and Jagoba Madariaga-Sylvain Brefel. Madariaga-Brefel dominated the first round (15-8). In the second round, Dardenne-Perez came back more offensive. Although trailing 4-0 at the start of this second round, they completely turned things around in the last points to equalize at 11 all and conclude (15-12).

The third and final round was a real fight between the two teams who were neck and neck up to 8 all. The victory was decided by a hair and it was Dardenne-Perez who came out on top by pushing their opponents to make mistakes to win (10-8).

This last stage in Anglet was crowned with success, both in sporting terms and in terms of attendance, as underlines Jean-Pierre Michelena, president of the fronton series association. ” We are very happy. The level was extraordinary. That’s what we wanted. The goal was to have high-level pelota games to attract the public.” See you next year !
