Today has given the world several famous people who closely connected their lives with football:
Ruslan Rotan
Ruslan Rotan (1981) – former midfielder of Dynamo, Dnepr, Slavia Prague and the Ukrainian national team. Born in Poltava, in the family of a football player. Ruslan’s father played for the local Vorskla for a long time, and it is natural that Rotan’s parents knew from childhood what their son would do. At the professional level, Ruslan began playing for Dnepr. The midfielder’s career included a not entirely successful journey to Dynamo Kiev, for whom Ruslan played from 2005 to 2008. He played 100 matches for the Ukrainian national team and scored 8 goals. Until recently, he was the head coach of the Ukrainian youth team. Now he is the coach of Alexandria.
Edwin van der Sar (1970) – legendary Dutch goalkeeper. Edwin played for clubs such as Ajax, Juventus, Fulham and Manchester United. The goalkeeper won 27 club trophies during his career, was repeatedly awarded various prizes, and also became a bronze medalist at the European Championships twice in a row (in 2000 and 2004). He played 130 matches for the Dutch national team and missed 89 matches.
Philip Cocu (1970) – legendary Dutch footballer who played as a midfielder. Cocu spent his best years in the domestic PSV, which he now heads, and in the Catalan Barcelona. It is worth noting that Cocu played against Dynamo Kyiv in the most memorable Champions League matches for the Spanish club. During his career, he played almost 600 matches (598) in various national championships, in which he scored 121 goals, which is quite good for a central midfielder. Like van der Sar, he became a two-time bronze medalist at the European Championships in a row. It is worth noting that at Euro 2004 Koku was the captain of his national team.
Robert Pires (1973) – former French football player. He was born in the French city of Reims, where he began his first football steps, playing in the youth team of a local club. But Pires’s first professional team was the domestic Metz, for which Robert played for six years. After Metz, the midfielder briefly played for Olympique Marseille, after which Pires moved to perhaps his main club in his playing career – London’s Arsenal. Afterwards, Robert played in the Spanish Villarreal, as well as the English Aston Villa. The Frenchman ended his career at the Indian club Goa. It is worth noting that Pires achieved enormous success as a member of the French national team, winning the World and European Championships once each, and also winning the Confederations Cup twice.
