A heavily intoxicated driver of a tractor-trailer drove off the roadway of Autobahn 28 at around 9:45 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023, endangering a highway maintenance employee. He had to jump over the guard rail to safety from the approaching tractor-trailer.

The 38-year-old man, who lives in Belarus, initially drove the tractor-trailer into the urban area of Delmenhorst. On the way to the Adelheide junction, several road users noticed him because of his unsafe driving style. At the Adelheide junction he entered the Autobahn 28 towards Bremen and left it at the Hasport junction. From here he drove back through the city area to return to the Adelheide junction in the direction of Bremen. He left the motorway again at the Hasport junction. Now he was already driving at the same junction onto Autobahn 28 in the direction of Groß Mackenstedt. The 38-year-old also traveled in serpentine lines on the feeder road, veered off the road to the right and approached a motorway maintenance truck on the shoulder. The 58-year-old employee, who was cleaning up an oil spill, recognized the approaching tractor-trailer and jumped over the outside safety barrier to safety. Luckily he was uninjured. Immediately afterwards, the 38-year-old’s tractor-trailer collided on the side with the parked highway maintenance truck. However, the 38-year-old continued the journey. An attentive witness who observed the unsafe driving and the collision followed the tractor-trailer and called the police.

The 38-year-old stopped his train at a truck stop between the Delmenhorst triangle and the Groß Mackenstedt junction and was found here by the police. The man was heavily intoxicated. A breath alcohol test carried out showed a value of 2.44 per mille. The officers initiated an investigation against him for endangering road traffic and leaving the scene of an accident without permission. A blood sample was required to be taken. At the request of the Oldenburg public prosecutor’s office, they confiscated the 38-year-old’s driver’s license. They also seized the vehicle keys. The shipping company now has to take care of sending a replacement driver.
