Czech Defense Minister Jana Cernochová believes the country should withdraw from the UN because of a General Assembly resolution that calls for a “truce” between Israel and Hamas but does not condemn the group’s attack.
Chernokhova wrote about this on Saturday evening on the social network Twitter (X), European Pravda reports.
“Exactly three weeks ago, Hamas killed more than 1,400 Israelis – more victims for their population than the militants of the Islamist organization Al-Qaeda killed in the United States on September 11. And only 14 countries, including ours, clearly and clearly spoke out against this unprecedented terrorist attack carried out by Hamas terrorists!” Chernokhova wrote.
“I am ashamed of the UN. In my opinion, the Czech Republic has no place in an organization that supports terrorists and does not respect the fundamental right to self-defense. I propose to leave it,” she added.
I know that today is an important day for 🇨🇿 and we want to celebrate our 105th anniversary of the republic. But this simply cannot be time-barred, forgive me. On Friday, the UN General Assembly, by 120 votes in favor, 14 against and 45 abstentions, adopted the first resolution, drafted by Jordan and more than 40 other countries, regarding the current escalation in the Middle East.
The resolution condemns violence directed at Palestinian and Israeli civilians and calls for a humanitarian truce and the immediate release of civilians illegally held captive.
Czech Prime Minister: The future of Western civilization is at stake in Ukraine and Israel
Canada proposed an amendment to the text of the resolution so that it contained an unequivocal condemnation of Hamas “terrorist attacks” and a demand for the immediate release of the hostages, but its proposal was rejected.
Let us remind you that the Czech Republic, like most Western countries, actively supports Israel after the Hamas attack on October 7, which led to the death of thousands of people.
Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky was one of the first to visit the country shortly after the attack to facilitate the evacuation of his fellow citizens. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala proposed move the country’s embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
