Fire Breaks Out in Oslo Apartment Building, Residents Evacuated

LATEST: The evacuees are now allowed to go back in, the police say.

On Saturday evening, the emergency services went to a block of flats on Furuset after reports of a fire in an apartment on the third floor. Residents were evacuated and the cause of the fire is unknown.

One person is injured and is being cared for by health care, the police said. The injured person was taken to hospital after being exposed to a lot of smoke. The extent of the damage is unknown.

The Oslo 110 central informed on X that they were on the scene with large resources.

The watch commander, Erik Sundt Fredriksen, stated that they received a report about the fire at 10 p.m., and that there were flames coming from an apartment on the third floor.

– A person was observed in the apartment. We quickly went in with smoke divers and got the person out. It was reported now that the fire has been extinguished, he told Dagbladet.

Fredriksen says that subsequent extinguishing is now underway.

At 22.48, the police informs that two apartments are uninhabitable.

– This applies to the fire scene as well as the apartment on the floor below.
