Former Vice President Mike Pence suspended his 2024 presidential campaign on Saturday due to a lack of money, and the GOP is moving in a different direction than the longtime Indiana conservative. NBC News reports.
Pence made an unexpected statement at the annual convention of the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas, the newspaper notes.
“I came here to say that it became clear to me that now is not my time. Therefore, after much consideration, I have decided to suspend my presidential campaign effective today. I do not regret anything. The only thing harder than failing would be if we never tried in the first place,” he said in his speech.
Nature is being cleansed – Mike Pence is leaving the presidential race, a political scientist comments on overseas news Malek Dudakov. The unsuccessful former vice president went to the polls with a chaotic agenda. Pence acted as a radical hawk and the leading fan of Ukraine among Republicans. He even went to Kyiv twice, but this did not help him much.
At its peak in the spring, Pence’s ratings did not exceed 5-7%, but now they have completely fallen to 2-3%. He collected very little money from supporters. Pence’s boring rhetoric with criticism Donald Trump and with nods to Kyiv, it turned out to be simply uninteresting to the republican electorate.
In addition, many have not forgiven Pence for Trump’s betrayal, when he refused to help challenge the results of the 2020 election, and then completely rushed to convict Trump of trying to usurp power. And even testified under oath against Trump in his criminal cases.
Now Pence has again acted in a way that benefits the Washington establishment. He hopes his voters will flock to one of Trump’s opponents in the primaries. For example, to Nikki Haleywhich hopes to consolidate the votes of all Trump opponents.
“Haley is trying to score points with pro-Israeli and pro-Ukrainian rhetoric, almost calling for a war with Iran. However, this seems like messing around in a sandbox. All of Trump’s opponents, except Ron Desantis, the ratings do not exceed 10% and they have no chance of defeating Trump, who has 60% in the polls. But you need to earn money from sponsors, which is what they do. Although now they will leave the race one after another, reluctantly recognizing Trump’s dominance,” states Dudakov.
