Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan Affirms Loyalty to President Jokowi, Dismisses Resignation Rumors

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan admitted that he would not resign from President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) cabinet.

He expressed this by uploading a video on his personal Instagram social media, @luhut.pandjaitan on Saturday (28/10/2023) to dispel rumors that Luhut would resign from his position.

“I will never step down from Pak Jokowi. “I will remain loyal to Pak Jokowi until the last moment, maybe he no longer needs me,” said Luhut in his upload.

Kompas.com has received permission from the Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) Jodi Mahardi to quote Luhut’s video upload from Instagram.

For Luhut, President Jokowi is a commander who deserves full support.

“Because I think Pak Jokowi is a commander who should be supported at all costs by anyone,” he said in the same upload.

The issue of Coordinating Minister Luhut resigning from President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) cabinet emerged when recently Luhut was ill and recuperating in Singapore.

Luhut previously talked about his condition during his illness since last Friday (6/10/2023) on his personal Instagram social media some time ago.

At that time, Luhut felt unusually tired before he was finally taken to hospital by his wife, Devi Simatupang.

“A few days ago after attending an activity, I suddenly felt extremely tired. This tiredness is not like what I usually feel after work,” wrote Luhut.

“Seeing her husband’s abnormal condition, my wife then took the initiative to take me to a hospital in Jakarta for further preventive measures,” he said.

Then, Luhut was offered by Singapore’s Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean to undergo treatment in Singapore.

Not just recovery, Luhut carried out a more comprehensive medical examination and evaluation regarding his health condition.

Then on October 18, Luhut advised the public not to believe the photos circulating on social media that linked him to being in critical condition in hospital.

“If I may, friends, you don’t need to believe the strange photos that are floating around. Overall, from the results of the team of doctors, I report that my progress has progressed very significantly,” said Luhut in a video upload on his personal Instagram account.
