Jakarta –
Buy now pay later (BNPL) service on the PT application Akulaku Finance Indonesia is limited by the Financial Services Authority (OJK). This limitation has been stated in letter Number SR-1/PL.1/2023 dated 5 October 2023.
Deputy Commissioner for Supervision of Financing Institutions, PMVs, LKMs and other LJKs, Bambang W Budiawan, said the restrictions on business activities were because the companies did not carry out the supervisory measures requested by the OJK.
“The financing company (Akulaku) is prohibited from carrying out business activities in distributing financing to both existing debtors and new debtors using BNPL schemes or similar financing, including those whose financing is distributed through channeling or joint financing schemes,” said Bambang in an official statement, Monday (23/10 /2023).
Furthermore, Akulaku was asked to carry out corrective actions as intended in Akulaku’s corrective action plan which OJK responded to in letter Number S-78/PL.11/2023 dated 5 October 2023 regarding Response to the Action Plan regarding Special Supervision Status.
“This announcement should be disseminated widely,” he said.
Separately, President Director Akulaku Efrinal Sinaga admitted that his party is still taking steps to improve its PayLater product. In the future, he is committed to fulfilling all the provisions regulated by the OJK.
“We prioritize running our business within a legal and compliance framework. We hope that in the near future and as soon as possible we can operate again. Please pray and support us,” said Efrinal.
