In the retro
Demoted to CFA2 in 2011 after its liquidation, RC Strasbourg, a century-old club, then made a crazy comeback by returning to the elite of French football. Under the leadership of its President Marc Keller and supported by Meinau, renowned for its fiery atmosphere, the club from the Alsatian capital climbed the ranks and established itself in Ligue 1, regularly winning retention with Thierry Laurey at its head. Julien Stéphan who succeeds him shows his advantage by obtaining sixth place and the RCSA displays new ambitions with the desire to assert itself as a team that can take part in the fight for qualifications for the European games.
Under American flag
Recently bought by BlueCo, the investment fund owning Chelsea, Strasbourg has changed gear: structuring, arrival of promising players and massive recruitment in particular. BlueCo and Marc Keller also appoint Patrick Vieira as coach.
The RCSA is slipping
The start of the season proved to be mixed for the Strasbourg team, which has not yet managed to create momentum. The August successes against Lyon and Toulouse did not find an echo and Kevin Gameiro’s teammates will arrive in Brittany after three consecutive defeats, four if we take into account the 3-0 setback during the friendly against Karlsurher during the international truce.
Gerzino Nyamsi in success
Originally from Saint-Brieuc, trained at SRFC, Gerzino Nyamsi chose to join Strasbourg in 2021; profitable choice for the central defender who has established himself brilliantly in the various RCSA systems. The most used outfield player in the team this season, he will probably seek a new start for his return to his homeland. Also in the Strasbourg squad is Sanjin Prcić. The midfielder, international with Bosnia-Herzegovina, played at SRFC between 2014 and 2018.
The statistic: 5
The teammates of former Caen player Jessy Deminguet stand out as an overall disciplined team. The RCSA is the fifth elite team to have received the fewest cards since the start of the championship with a total of fifteen yellows and no reds. In the same context, Rennes is the second team to have received the fewest cards in Ligue 1.
