Israeli Army Intercepts Hostile Target in Red Sea Region

On Friday, the Israeli army published a video clip that it said showed the moment of “intercepting a hostile target” in the Red Sea region.

Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adraee wrote on the “X” platform, “The Air Force forces were called in the morning hours following an air threat that was detected in the Red Sea region and were able to intercept hostile targets that were in the region.”

He added: “These targets did not pose any threat to citizens, as Israeli sovereignty was not violated.”

Adraee accompanied his words with a brief video clip showing what appears to be a flying object before it is dropped from the air.

Adraee did not clarify whether the video was related to the incident that occurred in Egypt earlier in the day.

Adraee had previously stated on the “X” platform that Israel had detected “in recent hours an air threat in the Red Sea region, and warplanes were called in to deal with it.”

Adraee said: “According to our assessment, the injury suffered by Egypt resulted from this threat.”

The Egyptian army had previously announced that six people were injured as a result of the “fall of an unidentified march” on Thursday night – Friday, in the city of Taba, which borders Israel.

A military spokesman said that the march fell on “a building next to Taba Hospital” in the town of the same name, located opposite the tourist resort of Eilat in Israel, which is waging a war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip in response to an unprecedented attack carried out by the movement on October 7.

In turn, the Cairo News Channel, which is close to Egyptian intelligence, reported that “in the context of the current escalation in Gaza, a missile fell in Taba, slightly wounding six people.”

In turn, Reuters reported, citing two Egyptian security sources, that another object fell near a power station in Nuweiba, which is located about 70 kilometers from the border, and they said that they were still collecting more information.

The Egyptian and Israeli narratives intersected regarding what the city of Taba, located on the border, witnessed on Friday morning, with a “threat from the air” resulting in an explosion, but they differed in explanations. While Cairo spoke of a “drone,” the Israeli army referred to a “threat coming from the Red Sea.”

Without specifying a specific location, Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hajari said earlier: “In the past few hours, we detected an air threat in the Red Sea region. We sent combat helicopters to deal with the threat, and the matter is now being investigated.”

He added in a press briefing broadcast on television, “As far as we know, the strike that occurred in Egypt was a result of this threat… Israel will work with Egypt and the United States to strengthen regional defenses in the face of threats coming from the Red Sea region.”

The US military said last week that a Navy warship in the northern Red Sea intercepted projectiles likely fired by the Houthi militia towards Israel.
