Retirees and Pensioners in Veracruz Fight for Reactivation of Life Insurance

With a blockade on Enríquez Street and a party of cake, members of the State Group of Retirees and Pensioners of the Institute of Security and Social Services of Workers of the State of Veracruz (Ajupiv) celebrated the ninth anniversary of this organization and denounced the government’s disinterest state to reactivate institutional life insurance, which affects more than 12 thousand members.

Susana Suárez Hernández, secretary of organization of the association, reiterated the complaint that the government of Cuitláhuac García Jiménez has neglected this claim of retirees and pensioners, despite the fact that the resource for this labor benefit is federal for these purposes.

He explained that said money is not a resource of the state government but is transferred to it by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) and that even in January of this year an item arrived that should have been used to hire the insurance company; However, it was not done and it is unknown why it was not done.

He stated that the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (Issste) has deducted monthly, for two years, the equivalent of .7 percent of the amount of the pension for institutional life insurance, despite the fact that is not active

He reported that in the two years in which the Secretariat of Education of Veracruz (SEV) has not contracted the insurance, six Ajupiv members have died without their relatives receiving the amount to which they are entitled, estimated at 180 thousand pesos.

He held the Governor and the head of the SEV responsible for the suffering of many relatives of deceased teachers and employees of that agency, condemned to travel from office to office to get paid for a non-current life insurance policy.

Finally, he announced that the demonstrations by retirees and pensioners will continue every Thursday until the governor keeps his word or until his term ends, which is already a year away.
