Common intentions to maintain PKDI and OKPAPA

FROM PRESENT AND FUTURE MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY

The newly elected Mayor of Ioannina, Thomas Begas, and his colleagues are studying a “riddle” that the ND government posed on the eve of the elections, with the law on the abolition of Legal Entities of Municipalities.

The current municipal authority has until November 16 to bring to the municipal council the issue of the future of organizations such as OKPAPA, the Public Benefit Enterprise for Culture, Environment, Sports and Youth (the Spiritual Center otherwise), the Perama Cave Organization, the Nursing Home, etc. .And even if it is in the intentions of the outgoing municipal authority to ask the central state to maintain, for example, OKPAPA as an exception, it is extremely doubtful that the state will accept the requests for an exception of all and everyone, because this would then essentially mean the non-implementation of the law that the government, with only the votes of the ND, passed a few days ago.

The executives of the outgoing municipal authority had spoken about the intention to exempt OKPAPA from the abolition, and it is expected that within the next few days we will see the actions of the Papageorgiou administration, in order to form a picture of what will happen next.

The truth, however, is that the new administration of the Municipality of Ioannita – like all the newly elected municipal authorities – will not start their work with the “shop” laid out, but for a year, they will struggle with the new Internal Service Organization of the Municipality which will have to to include all the executive potential of the integrated structures and with all the issues that will arise from the new Municipality.

The intentions

In any case, the intentions of both the outgoing and the newly elected municipal authorities are to preserve these two legal entities.

In fact, Thomas Bega’s faction held a meeting with the participation of the elected municipal councilors of the current and next period with the sole topic of the stance it will take on this burning issue.

At this meeting, it was decided that the proposal should be the preservation of both OKPAPA and the Spiritual Center and this will be transferred to the present municipal authority in the meeting that Dimitris Papageorgiou and Thomas Bega will have at the top level next Monday morning.

The meeting will not only concern the two legal entities but also in general the agreement of the “road map” for the smoothest possible transition to the next day which starts from the New Year of 2024.
