Rahman Rezaei, former Perugia, Messina and Livorno, is now assistant coach of Iran. Interviewed by Sportitalia, he also spoke about Mehdi Taremi’s desire to wear the Inter shirt, perhaps already in January.
How did you see him in the last national team training camp?
“Well, he’s in great form: we were in Jordan with Iran in recent weeks and I saw him brilliant, he played really well. I think he can still give a lot to high-level football for a few years.”

“Yes, he absolutely can make the difference. He is a striker who has everything. He makes great use of the offside line without giving the defenders points of reference. He fits in well even when he starts from further back. As a striker he knows what to do, but he has a great performance even as a second striker or as an attacking winger. “The best way to exploit him, in my opinion, is to put him in the role where he performs best, as a midfielder/second striker. There he can do everything: move to the right or left, defend the ball, skip the man, go and get the ball behind There are few like him in modern football. “Exactly, it could be an opportunity from this point of view. Many players arriving in Italy in the summer who were out of contract and are now making the difference. Then the role of the coach will be fundamental to make him perform at his best. Taremi is 31 years old, but he can do really well in Italy. I think of what Mandzukic did with Allegri. He can guarantee at least 2-3 years of high level.”
How would you see him paired with Lautaro Martinez?
“We’re talking about a very strong striker, they can do very well together. They both know how to hold the ball and make the team move forward, but at the same time Toro is lethal in the air and is bad at making runs behind the defence: I would see Taremi doing well playing around him, everything then depends on what Inzaghi possibly thinks.”

“Yes, he was ready to go to Milan. I would also see him well in the Rossoneri. Whichever team he arrived in he would do well.”
Did he tell you anything about the rumors about Italy?
“Yes, we talked about it. He also feels like the right time to change, to make a further leap into a great team. Mentally he is ready. I told him that one more season at Porto would be good for him and that next year he would be even more ready.”

“He is ready to leave in January too and I also advised him to go if he has the chance.
