28th (Sat) Northern Japan – Western Japan Be careful of sudden heavy rain and lightning strikes

Strong cold air is flowing into the sky near Japan for this time of year. Cold air with temperatures below -21°C is expected to flow into the area around 5,500 meters above Japan tomorrow, the 28th (Saturday). As a result, atmospheric conditions will be extremely unstable. Be careful of lightning, tornadoes, strong wind gusts, hailstorms, and localized heavy rain. If there are signs that a developed cumulonimbus cloud is approaching, such as a black cloud approaching, please move to a safe place, such as inside a building.

Clouds will spread over Hokkaido, Tohoku, and Hokuriku, and it will likely rain. It looks like it will rain heavily with thunder in some places.
The Kanto region has periods of sunshine, but the weather is changeable, with rain and thunderstorms here and there.
There will be sunshine from the Tokai region to Kyushu. Rain clouds and thunderclouds may develop until around noon, but the unstable atmosphere is expected to clear up in the afternoon.
Okinawa will be sunny during the day.

The maximum temperature tomorrow will be around 15℃ in Hokkaido, 18℃ to 20℃ in Tohoku and Hokuriku, and 22℃ to 24℃ from Kanto to Kyushu. Temperatures in Okinawa are expected to be around 27 degrees Celsius.
Tomorrow, the temperature difference between morning and evening and daytime will be large. Please adjust your clothes appropriately.

29th (Sunday) Weather continues to be changeable in eastern and northern Japan

The day after tomorrow, the 29th (Sunday), even stronger cold air with temperatures below -24℃ is expected to flow into the sky at around 5,500 meters above eastern and northern Japan. The atmosphere will remain extremely unstable in eastern and northern Japan.

Rain will fall mainly in the Tohoku and Hokuriku regions, and it is likely to become heavier with local thunderstorms.
Hokkaido, Kanto, Kyushu, and Okinawa will mostly be sunny. The area of unstable atmospheric conditions is not expected to spread any further than it did on Saturday the 28th, but there is a possibility of light rain or light rain even in the plains of the Kanto region. When going out, it’s a good idea to bring rain gear such as a folding umbrella just in case.

Signs of approaching thunderclouds, what should you do?

When you’re outside, there’s an easy way to tell if thunderclouds are approaching. There are three signs that thunderclouds are approaching. “Pitch black clouds are approaching” “I hear the rumbling of thunder” “A cold wind suddenly blows”. If you feel these changes, please evacuate to a safe place immediately as heavy rain and thunder may be occurring soon.

When a thundercloud approaches, a good place to take shelter is in a nearby sturdy building or inside your car. Taking shelter from the rain under a tree is dangerous because lightning that strikes the tree can jump to people. In the unlikely event that there is no place to evacuate nearby, crouch down with your feet together, head bowed, and cover your ears with both hands.

Severe phenomena caused by isolated thunderclouds often subside after about 30 minutes to an hour. Wait for the thunderclouds to pass in a safe place while checking the latest information such as checking the rain cloud radar on your smartphone.
