The date has arrived. On October 29, the 2023 regional elections will be held throughout the national territory. The governors, deputies, mayors, councilors and councilors will be elected who will guide the destinies of their towns during the period 2024-2027.
On this occasion, Huila has a wide variety of candidates from different parties, movements and political tendencies who aspire to occupy the most important popularly elected position within the department.
The most recent survey published by the newspaper La Nación on October 22, indicates that the next governor of the Opitas will be former senator Rodrigo Villalba Mosquera, an old acquaintance who has just finished his term as senator of the Republic. Villalba Mosquera leads the voting intention with 37%, followed by the former mayor of Neiva Rodrigo Lara Sánchez and Sandra Hernández, the only female candidate in the race.
The electoral scenario in the department, far from being defined, presents very interesting elements that should be taken into account by the candidates. For example, according to the survey revealed by this newspaper, the percentage of undecided people remains high since 12.7% of Huila residents still do not know who to vote for, while 5.4% of the people surveyed said they will vote. in white. Thus, the differences between Villalba Mosquera and Lara Sánchez could vary significantly and make a difference next Sunday. Who will be the new governor of Huila? Will either of them accept the position of deputy of the departmental assembly if they are defeated? We’ll know.
Now, we have seen both Villalba Mosquera and Lara Sánchez govern. We Huilenses know how they have acted, what they have done, what they have let go, what they have promised and have not fulfilled, where they failed and what they did well. In such a way that, just a few days before the regional elections, all that remains is to invite each of the people of Huila to cast their vote at the polls with responsibility, intelligence and love for the land.
Huila is a department with deep problems of poverty, inequality, lack of opportunities (many of us have left looking for a dignified and hopeful future). It is no secret that the roads are a disaster and that finding a job position seems to have as a prerequisite, having worked in the political campaign of one of those candidates that we all know, who exchange votes for positions without blushing. Therefore, it is a moral duty to elect a ruler who is truly committed to working to overcome the great and urgent needs of the Huila population.
According to data revealed on the page of the National Registry of Civil Status updated on October 4, 2023, Huila has an electoral potential of 910,119 voters, of which 457,322 are women and 452,797 are men. 253 voting stations and 2,761 tables will be installed. I hope that whoever is elected governor of the department will help us build a better place for all of us, we truly deserve it.
