The carmaker known for its flat engines, like its competitors, is looking forward to the electric era. It may be joined by an emission-free coupe that resembles the boxy Subaru SVX from the mid-1980s.
At the show in the capital of Japan, next to the electric Mazda Iconic SP concept, a similarly designed coupe was presented Subaru Sport Mobility. As in the case of the mentioned Mazda, it is a vision of the future, which in this case is also electric. Unlike the red concept from the competition, Subaru does not have a gasoline (in the case of the Mazda Iconic SP even a rotary) engine that would serve as an electricity generator when the battery is empty.
Although Subaru is not very specific about the drive, the angular Sport Mobility coupe is a classic battery electric car. The exterior with exposed carbon is reminiscent of two-door cars that are somewhat unknown in the Czech Republic Subaru XT from 1985, which, in addition to front-wheel drive, also offered an obligatory four-wheel drive, in which Subaru is one of the pioneers in putting it into regular production. In addition to the naturally aspirated flat four-cylinder with a volume of 1.8 liters and the six-cylinder boxer 2.7, the XT also offered a supercharged version of the eighteen-cylinder with a modest output of 83 or 86 kilowatts after modernization. Significantly higher values are expected for the potential serial Subaru Sport Mobility.
The newly introduced study boasts an unusually muscular design with distinctive bodywork features in the form of angular wheel arches, narrow but long headlights at both ends, an illuminated rear logo, large wheels with carbon fiber centers and a mask with massive intakes. Inside, Subaru promises a low position behind the oval steering wheel, two displays and, fortunately, classic buttons that many other automakers have given up on, although some of them are returning to them.
