Former Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang Dies at Age 68

Former Prime Minister (PM) of China Li Keqiang die. Keqiang died of a heart attack.

Quoted by Reuters, Friday (27/10/2023), Keqiang died at the age of 68. Keqiang suffered a heart attack on Thursday (26/10).

“Comrade Li Keqiang, while resting in Shanghai in recent days, suddenly suffered a heart attack on October 26 and after efforts to save him failed, he died in Shanghai at ten minutes past midnight on October 27,” state television station CCTV reported .

Keqiang served as China’s premier and cabinet chief under President Xi Jinping for a decade from 2013. He retired in March.

This economist, who graduated from Peking University, was once seen as a potential leader of the Communist Party. He also said in 2020 that more than 600 million Chinese earn less than $140 a month, sparking a wider debate about poverty and income inequality.
