Chinese state media today reported that former Prime Minister Li Keqiang passed away from a heart attack at the age of 68.
“Comrade Li Keqiang, while resting in Shanghai in recent days, suffered a sudden heart attack on October 26. After trying his best to resuscitate but failing, he passed away in Shanghai at 12:10 a.m. on October 27,” state broadcaster CCTV reported.
Former Premier Li Keqiang was the head of China’s cabinet serving under President Xi Jinping for a decade from 2013, until retiring in March this year. After retirement, he mainly lived in Shanghai.
Mr. Li Keqiang was born in 1955, from Dingyuan, Anhui province (China). He began working in March 1974 in the local union organization. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1976 and gradually advanced to the central level, serving as a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China in the XVII, XVIII, and XIX terms.
