A well-stocked suitcase for 2 or 3 euros. Advertisements are circulating on Facebook and Instagram from people pretending to be Schiphol and supposedly selling leftover suitcases. “They ask you to leave your details and then promise to send the suitcases,” a Schiphol spokesperson told Editie NL.
The airport was first made aware of this via social media a week and a half ago. “We initially thought it would blow over, but several accounts have already been spotted that operate in this way.”
‘clean up’
So writes the Facebook account ‘Schiphol Amsterdam Airport’ in a message: “We are urgently clearing the airport warehouse and selling luggage that was lost more than six months ago.” The page airport Schiphol says: “Lost luggage: You never know what could be in your suitcase. It could be valuable antiques, electronics or even money!”
Below the posts you can read responses from people who tell how they found tablets, telephones and other electronics in their suitcases.
Schiphol is concerned about the messages. “It is advertised, so sometimes these posts just appear on your timeline out of nowhere,” says the spokesperson.
Report
It is unknown how many people have been scammed in this way. “But we have received some responses from people who fell for it.” Schiphol recommends reporting the accounts.
