The Gyeonggi-do Bus Workers’ Union Council, which includes 52 bus company unions in Gyeonggi-do, dramatically succeeded in reaching an agreement with the management at the final mediation meeting held at the Gyeonggi Regional Labor Relations Commission yesterday night (25th) and signed the labor-management agreement.
Accordingly, if negotiations fail, the full-scale strike that was announced from the first train today (26th) will be canceled and all routes will operate normally.
The labor-management agreement included a plan to increase wages by 4% and 4.5%, respectively, for transportation workers on semi-public and private lines.
In addition, a plan was included to preserve wages at the level of semi-public system employees for employees on the private system, who are being converted to a semi-public system.
In the agreement that day, Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon played a significant role in visiting the negotiation room even while the mother-in-law was in mourning and coordinating the differences between the two sides.
Governor Kim is said to have encouraged reconciliation of differing opinions by pledging to fully implement the ‘public management system’, a semi-public system for general city buses, by 2027, which he had announced would be difficult to fully introduce within his term.
At the signing ceremony of the labor-management agreement, Governor Kim said, “I am very pleased that the buses that are used by the citizens of the province will run normally (tomorrow),” and added, “Thank you for going beyond the labor-management level and reaching a great deal for the citizens of the province.”
Labor and management held a mediation meeting for about 7 hours from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. yesterday, with about 30 representatives from both sides in attendance.
