The Hebrew Walla website quoted an Israeli official on Wednesday as saying that negotiations to release more Israeli hostages held by resistance factions in the Gaza Strip have reached a “decisive stage.” The official indicated that a ground operation would be postponed for “days” during which the occupation would invade the besieged Gaza Strip.
The Israeli official explained, “If no progress is made in the coming days, Israel will go ahead with the scheduled ground operation against the Gaza Strip.” He added, “Even if there is only a 20% chance of reaching an agreement to release the hostages, it is worth waiting before starting the ground operation.”
Israeli estimates indicate what leaders in the Hamas movement had already stated, which is that the resistance factions will not release more Israeli civilian prisoners held by the resistance factions unilaterally, without compensation or understandings with the occupation authorities, related to the entry of aid into the Strip, which He is suffering from a humanitarian catastrophe due to the crimes of the occupation.
The Israeli official claimed that “Israel would be willing to pay money to Hamas as part of a deal under which women, children and the elderly would be released.”
Hamas had released four of its Israeli hostages in a humanitarian gesture, in response to the Qatari initiative. Qatar, in coordination with the United States, is leading mediation talks between Hamas and Israeli officials regarding the release of detainees at a time when Israel is preparing to launch a ground attack on the Gaza Strip. Qatar has contributed to the release of four female detainees in Gaza so far.
The newspaper “Yedioth Ahronoth” indicated that Israel “is studying the humanitarian release of Palestinian prisoners – or rather male and female prisoners, children and minors,” as part of the understandings that Qatari mediation efforts seek to reach, in exchange for the humanitarian release of Israeli prisoners in Gaza.
