Xiaomi 14 Series: Leaked Specifications and Collaboration with Leica Summilux Lens

KOMPAS.com – Xiaomi is certain to introduce its newest high-end (flagship) cellphone, the Xiaomi 14 series, on October 26 2023. The launch of the device will take place in its home country, China, at around 19.00 local time.

As the successor to the Xiaomi 13 series, the Xiaomi 14 is believed to come with a number of improvements and novelties. Starting from a thinner bezel (screen frame), a chipset that is claimed to be faster, to improvements in the photography sector.

Even though it hasn’t been released yet, leaked specifications for the Xiaomi 14 have appeared in cyberspace.

Most recently, the company leaked the Xiaomi 14 camera directly via the Chinese microblogging platform, Weibo. Xiaomi revealed that the Xiaomi 14 relies on Summilux lenses from the German lens manufacturer, Leica.

This collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica is claimed to make the Xiaomi 14 produce clearer images at night, image processing has improved, the camera is also able to capture more light into the sensor, and so on.

This Leica Summilux lens is better than the Leica Summicron lens that Xiaomi used in its previous flagship smartphones, namely the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 13 series.

“The Leica Optical Summilux lens is the most perfect (lens) to date. “Smartphone image processing co-created by Xiaomi and Lenca, #Xiaomi14 will be the first (smartphone) equipped with this (lens),” wrote Xiaomi on Weibo.

Compiled by KompasTekno from Gizmochina, Wednesday (25/10/2023), Xiaomi 14 will support the Leca Vario-Summilux lens with an aperture (opening/f) of 1.6 to 2.2 and ASPH (apsherical lens) 14-75 mm.

Simply put, the Xiaomi 14’s main camera will rely on an aspherical lens, a camera lens element that is capable of capturing sharper photos and reducing lens distortion. The lens also offers an aperture of 1.6 along with a focal length of 14 mm to 75 mm.

With the focal length range above, Xiaomi’s camera configuration will be divided into three. The main camera will rely on a 23 mm lens, the ultrawide camera will rely on a 14 mm lens for a wider viewing distance, while the telephoto camera uses a 75 mm lens with 3.2 times optical zoom capability.

The resolution of each camera is not yet known. However, when compared to the Xiaomi 13 camera, the Xiaomi 14 camera relies on a superior lens, offers a wider viewing distance and a larger aperture (f).

Because, Xiaomi 13 still relies on a Vario-Summicron lens with an aperture of 1.8 to 2.2. Then, the lens distance offered is 15 mm to 75 mm. This difference also means that the Xiaomi 13’s ultrawide photos are not as wide as the Xiaomi 14.

Leaked specifications for the Xiaomi 14 series

Xiaomi 14 is rumored to come in two models, namely Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro. According to well-known gadget leaker, Ice Universe, the Xiaomi 14 Pro will come with a thinner screen bezel on all four sides.

The thin screen bezel is claimed to improve the user’s experience in scrolling or watching on the screen. The screen will adopt a curved screen model, namely curved on the right and left. The notch on the Xiaomi 14 Pro is a punch hole type and is located in the top center of the screen.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro will adopt a design language similar to the Xiaomi 13. From the three-dimensional (3D) rendering that was revealed, the back has a square-shaped camera module that protrudes more from the shell.

The Xiaomi 14 battery is said to have a capacity of 4,830 mAH and supports 90 watt fast charging or 50 watt wireless charging. The operating system it runs is Android 14.

In the kitchen sector, the Xiaomi 14 is said to rely on a new chipset from Qualcomm, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. However, this System-on-Chip (SoC) has not yet been officially released.

Qualcomm has announced a “Snapdragon Summit” event from October 24 to October 26. Usually, at this moment, the company releases its newest high-end chipset.

If this prediction is correct, the Xiaomi 14 will be the first smartphone to be powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. We’ll just have to wait for the truth of the leaked specifications above at its official launch later.
