After last year’s great success, it’s back Uànema: Feast of the Other Living – 2nd
editionthe event promoted by the Municipality of Naples which will take place from 28 October to 1 November 2023 – last day of guided tours with free entry – to which will be added a special event scheduled for November 2nd.
The care of the dead has always had a particular cultural importance in the Neapolitan tradition. And it is precisely to honor them by revealing the grotesque side of death in a liberating hymn to life, the municipal administration has decided to promote a series of events and cultural activities aimed at discovering and spreading the culture of the souls of Purgatory in Naples.
The event includes 3 macro-categories of totally free events: guided tours of churches and hypogea, theatrical and musical performances and night-time film screenings.
A series of extraordinary evening and night openings will, in fact, allow you to visit some of the hypogea in which the rite took shape over the centuries, with a program that is enriched with new sites to be discovered: at churches of Santa Maria delle Anime del Purgatorio ad Arco, of Santa Luciella ai Librai, of San Giovanni Maggiore, of Sant’Anna dei Lombardi, of SS. Cosma and Damiano in Secondigliano et al museum complex of the Augustissima Archconfraternity of the Pilgrimsare added the church of Santa Maria della Misericordia ai Vergini and the Basilica of San Pietro ad Aram. The list of sites which, exceptionally, will be accessible in the evening also includes the Cristallini hypogeum, the catacombs of San Gennaro and San Gaudioso and the 366 Fosse cemetery.
Also this year the young musicians of Bandwaist they will accompany tourists and Neapolitans on a complex “surface” itinerary. On 28 and 30 October the lively musical procession will be punctuated by the performance of songs but also by the presentation of the historical, artistic and religious themes that characterize the two routes, the one from the Lazzaretto to Piazza San Domenico Maggiore and the one along Via Toledo.
The event will continue with musical and theatrical performances, dance shows and film marathons to rediscover the cult of the souls in Purgatory and the places in the city that preserve their memory.
The busy schedule of “Uànema: Feast of the other living – 2nd edition” is enriched this year with the addition of an unmissable event special event: November 2nd at the TIN – Teatro Instabile in Naples will go on stage Alessandro Gori – The Sgargabonzi with “10 monologues on death”, a light and profound show that talks about our destiny, to reflect on the beauty of life and exorcise the fear of death.
