500 participants from 18 countries compete in six diverse competitions.
ABU DHABI, 25th October, 2020 (WAM): The final round of the Global Information Technology Challenge for Youth of Determination 2023, which continues until 27th October, began today at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC), which is being held for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa region.
The competition attracts more than 500 participants representing 18 countries, including 16 in person and two virtual countries, competing in six diverse fields.
The competition is organized by the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in South Korea and LG Electronics, and the students who win the challenge will be crowned next Friday at a ceremony.
His Excellency Abdullah Abdul Ali Al-Humaidan, Secretary-General of the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, confirmed that the UAE pays great attention to its children from various groups, especially people of determination, to ensure their empowerment and integration into society and to exploit their energies in work and construction.
He added in the speech he delivered at the opening of the challenge that Abu Dhabi’s hosting of this competition for the first time comes as a continuation of the successes that have been achieved in the field of caring for and qualifying various categories of people of determination to form with their peers from outside that category a serious, effective and productive model that is compatible with the comprehensive renaissance process that the country is witnessing and raises the level of The importance of our country to place it among the ranks of developed countries in providing comprehensive care and services to its children, which is an indication of sophistication and cultural development.
His Excellency Abdullah Al-Humaidan expressed his hope that this global gathering would be the beginning of cooperation and the formation of friendships among all the participants of people of determination, wishing them all a pleasant stay, good participation and fair competition in this challenge, explaining that the Zayed Higher Organization appreciates the trust from the Korean organization in hosting Abu Dhabi for the challenge. For his part, In Kyu Kim, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Global Innovation Award in Design and Technology (GITC), said: “We are very excited to be able to hold the final stage on the ground in the United Arab Emirates, in addition to participating via remote video communication. The award offers “GITC and its side events are an opportunity for all of us to expand our knowledge and experience, and reach beyond the boundaries and obstacles of our lives. This year, we have young people representing Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Ethiopia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, UAE, Vietnam and the Republic of Korea.”
In his speech at the opening session of the challenge, he added, “I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination and the host country, the government of Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates.
The grand finals of the challenge will last over two days from October 25 to 26, and will feature a series of exciting competitions.
The first day will feature two competitions: the Creative Electronic Smart Car, where participants’ skills in programming self-driving cars are evaluated using the Scratch program, and Electronic Content, where participants create and edit creative video clips on specific topics.
The second day presents four other challenges, including eToolPpt to assess skills in creating and editing slides, eTool Excel to assess proficiency in data, calculations and editing functions under certain circumstances, eLifeMap to measure the ability to use the Internet to meet daily challenges, and eCreativeIOT to assess the ability to improve the lives of people with disabilities through information technology or… Innovative ideas.
The event concludes with the announcement and honoring of the winners on October 27.
The GITC 2023 event in Abu Dhabi represents an important milestone in the quest for digital inclusion, empowering and showcasing the power of individuals with disabilities in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.
The Global Challenge is accompanied by the Inclusion and Innovation Forum (INI): As a strong addition to the event in this session, and held on the second day (26 October) with a focus on “Digital Inclusion and Human Rights”, the Forum provides a platform for constructive dialogue and collective thinking between government officials, experts, and representatives. The forum highlights the importance of bridging the digital divide, especially in the wake of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and ensuring the fair participation of individuals of determination in the digital age. It holds three main sessions, the first a circular talk that deals in depth with the details of digital inclusion and human rights, and the second a reflection session focusing on the milestones and achievements that have been achieved. The main goal of the Inclusion and Innovation Forum is to explore and investigate matters related to IT policies and programs. In the context of the global forum, special attention is paid to understanding and addressing considerations specific to the UAE and the wider Arab world, and the dialogue is expected to showcase the integration of emerging technologies, highlighting the multiple opportunities they offer to people of determination.
The Global Challenge is also accompanied by an exhibition organized by the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, which is the first of its kind in the history of the Challenge, and highlights the talents, innovations, and contributions of People of Determination in the field of technology and artificial intelligence. This initiative aims to promote awareness, appreciation and integration of these individuals into the wider community.
