The most famous Slovak football derby is behind us, from which the public always has high expectations. Unfortunately, we have to state that almost everyone would like the duel between Trnava and Slovan (1:2) to be of higher quality than last time.
Yes, we saw three very nice goals, but it was still not enough. Especially the first half brought a very low level and uninteresting football. Basically, it was just a fight. If it weren’t for the fact that the Trnava fans started a fire in their own stadium, we probably wouldn’t have anything to evaluate before the break except the firemen’s sprint. From this point of view, I am really sorry. Neither team wanted to lose.
Well, the ambition not to lose outweighed the desire to win. In the end, Slovan Bratislava reached three points, and it must be said that they deserved it. After the change of sides, it was a bit better, especially the whites showed higher quality. They presented themselves with a more interesting transition to the offensive, resilience in fights, and thus collected more rebounds. The one-goal triumph of the whites corresponds to what we saw on the pitch.
Sunday’s match between Trnava and Slovan only confirmed that coach Michal Gašparík Jr. and Vladimír Weiss senior. they know each other very well and can prepare for each other tactically. Probably too much because it was pre-tactical and no one wanted to take the risk. Both lined up their teams in a 3-4-3 formation. In this match, from my point of view, it didn’t suit either team in the offensive phase, and as a result, it was dull football for a long time.
I wished we had a similar exciting season as the last one. Today, however, there is no sign of that.
I was waiting to see who would come up with the change first. By deploying Milan Ristovský, the home coach decided to adjust the plan, who changed the scheme to 3-5-2, as he inserted Ofori under the tip. However, it did not help Spartak. After a poorly played standard situation, a quick counter-attack came when Blackman pushed Kucka into the breakaway, who did not let go of a sprint, but Ofori let go of the return, which led to the goal cross and the opening goal by Čavrič. After this moment, the match started a little and then we saw some interesting moments.
Yes, although it was not a derby of high quality, three fine goals must be appreciated. Hard to imagine after the first half. Čavrič’s header after Kuck’s cross, Zeljković’s half-volley and especially Lovat’s winning exhibition blow delighted the fan’s soul. Thank God, because if the match had not opened with the first goal, the derby would have been the least interesting meeting of the round.
After the victory in Trnava, Slovan took the lead ahead of Trenčín, where he found himself for the first time in the season. In addition, it has a good finish with Michalovci, which the team should handle and bounce back from the opponent behind them. The Whites are on a streak of eight consecutive wins across all competitions. At this point, it is difficult to find a scenario in which the reigning champion falls from the first place below.
The people of Bratislava have the best squad in Slovakia and today they show that they can fight successfully on three fronts. If they falter even in the Nike league, no one will significantly jump on them. The team of coach Vladimír Weiss st. he already has enough experience with the inflated program. Today Slovan is decorated not only with good form but also with the cohesion of the players, everyone is busy and therefore satisfied. This is also why I expect much less fluctuations in the Nike League in the performance of the Whites compared to last season.
I wished we had a similar exciting season as the last one. Today, however, there is no sign of that. Dunajská Streda alternates better days with worse. Apparently, Trenčín has too small a squad to play all year as it has been so far. Trnava, on the other hand, has a similarly inflated program as Slovan, while having less experience with it. Well, Podbrezová and Žilina have young teams that will certainly cause problems for everyone, but at the same time they will not avoid stumbling. So everything points towards the reigning champion claiming his sixth title in the series, a little earlier than the last time.
