Jakarta –
Not only elderly people, even young people are not free from the threat of stroke. In Indonesia, for example, many stroke cases are experienced by young people aged 20 to 30 years.
According to a specialist in neurology, Dr. Sigit Dewanto H, SpN, FINS, FINA, it is likely that the risk factor for stroke at a young age is none other than genetics.
“The aneurysm ruptured. It hit a blood vessel, it looks like a balloon. It burst. If it’s blocked, there’s a normal process. Severe genetics, it can also be affected,” he said when met. detikcom in Central Jakarta, Wednesday (25/10/2023).
That way, if someone knows that a family member, for example their father or mother, has a history of stroke, they should adopt a healthy lifestyle. With the hope that the stroke will not decrease.
“If you have high blood pressure and you’re crazy, it’s lowered. If you don’t respect your diet, you’ll definitely get sick,” stressed Dr. Sigit.
“We have to pay attention to this, otherwise it will follow (the decline in strokes). So that it doesn’t decline again, we have to live healthily,” he said further.
Could it be because of lifestyle?
Apart from genetic factors, certain habits such as smoking can also be a risk factor for stroke at a young age. The reason is, the bad effects of smoking do not appear immediately after someone consumes cigarettes, but rather ‘accumulate’ until the effects actually appear several years after someone starts smoking.
“I tell patients, if you smoke, there is a warning. If you don’t finish smoking, you’ll immediately have a stroke, that’s not a cigarette. That’s why you’re given a warning. If you smoke, it’s like a deposit. From middle school (smoking), then high school, you go to college and then work. ( “It’s like) the deposit is disbursed after 40 or 50 years,” concluded Dr. Sigit.
