Kim-Sarah Speer is one of the surprises of the Hessian state elections. The Christian Democrat won the direct mandate of the Green Economics Minister Al-Wazir in the migrant city of Offenbach. She used her origins for her own benefit.

Kim-Sarah Speer can probably still remember every minute of the election evening on October 8th, when in the nerve-racking alternation she was just behind, just ahead, on par and in the end 43 votes ahead of Tarek Al-Wazir from the Greens in constituency 43 Offenbach-Stadt lay. The fact that the young Christian Democrat succeeded in stealing the constituency in his hometown from the Hessian Minister of Economic Affairs and Transport quickly became an issue in the party itself across the region, for example at the Young Union’s Germany Day at the weekend in Braunschweig. The parent party now also likes to adorn itself online with the state political newcomer from Offenbach under the headline “A strong young woman in politics”.

But at this point in the conversation, the lawyer and passionate tennis player shows considerable political professionalism. Her joy at what she has achieved is immediately followed by the fact that she is aware of the great responsibility as a member of the Hessian state parliament and will go to work “with great humility”. This will be the case on January 18th next year, when the 21st Hessian state parliament meets for its constituent session.
