The electoral magistrate, Irma Palencia, presented her work report on October 24, two days after handing over the presidency of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) to Blanca Alfaro.
Palencia has been at the head of the TSE for the last 14 months and led the work and planning of the general elections, the process of which is expected to conclude on October 31.
The absence of judges Blanca Alfaro and Mynor Franco was notable at the ceremony.
The formal ceremony of the outgoing presidency of the TSE was held in the Parque de la Industria, although the ceremony had originally been planned at the Enrique Gómez Carrillo Chamber Theater, in the Miguel Ángel Asturias Cultural Center, however, hours before the event He withdrew their authorization to use the facility, Palencia explained.
“With apologies for the fact that we had to move the event. We have long requested that you go where you were invited. However, last night, very late, we received a note informing us that we would no longer be able to use it,” Palencia said.
“They don’t know how much we ran, I thank protocol, they haven’t slept at all, because everything was set up and we had to dismantle it and bring it, that’s why it’s doubly happy that we were able to, despite all the regrets, despite those who bet on That we don’t do it, we can do it,” said the magistrate.
An opinion has been requested from the Government on why the TSE’s use permit for the Chamber Theater was withdrawn. For now they have not responded.
The still president, in her speech, highlighted the work of recent months in relation to planning the electoral event, which in her opinion was carried out successfully.
“This is how the above has allowed and will allow our exercise as head of the Supreme Electoral Court to contribute to what we wish to contribute to the health of our democracy. And why not say so? Also in the basic social, political and economic stability of our country,” Palencia said.
The president of the TSE also recognized that in the recent electoral process there are “chiaroscuros that we have just experienced and that we are still experiencing, and that have colored these recent times in a bad way.”
He continued with the sentence that “the history that silently accompanies us will judge the events that have happened and are happening. He will judge his actors and circumstances; “It’s not our turn.”
Palencia continued with a presentation of the achievements during his administration. He thanked the rest of the judges, regular and alternate, for their support.
The transfer of command will be next Thursday, October 26, although so far no specific ceremony has been announced.
