Elections in Poland: Conservative Party Suffers Loss, Potential Government Formation, and Referendum Results

Elections took place in Poland. The ruling conservative party suffered a loss. Although it won the largest number of votes, 35.4%, it appears to have no coalition partners. Therefore, the government will most likely be formed by the second liberal Civic Coalition, which consists of the Civic Platform and several smaller parties. She won 30.7%. The center-right Third Way and the progressive Left are willing to join the government with her. The anti-system Confederation still got into the Sejm.

At the same time as the elections, a referendum was held in which Poles answered four questions, whether they support the sale of state assets, whether they want to raise the retirement age, whether the fence on the border with Belarus should be torn down, and whether they are in favor of accepting migrants from Africa and the Middle East. The opposition boycotted the referendum, turnout was 41%, but 94 to 96% of voters were against it.
