Launch of Shamma Mohammed Environmental Program for Sustainable Education

Al Ain, October 24 / WAM / Yesterday, Monday, Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural and Educational Institutions, launched the activities of the “Shamma Mohammed Environmental Program” within the “Shamma Mohammed Environmental Education” project, coinciding with The Year of Sustainability 2023 at the headquarters of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural Center.

The program aims to strengthen the country’s strategy by adopting a lifelong green learning curriculum that integrates climate education into the school curricula to train students on how to think about the land and preserve it.

The “Shamma Mohammed Environmental Program” targets school students as it is compatible with the educational environment in the UAE and enhances capacity building among students in the field of empowering them in the sustainable development goals, including the capabilities of teachers, parents and volunteers to support environmental sustainability through various activities that enhance the workshops that are implemented and contribute to Developing students’ knowledge and skills through interactive activities.

Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan said: “The world’s attention is directed towards the UAE, not because it is the host country for the Climate Conference “Cop28”, but because it is one of the countries that has achieved great successes in the environmental field and achieving environmental sustainability through many integrated strategies that have made the environment and conservation a priority. It has a main goal in accordance with the vision of our wise leadership.”

She stressed that continuity in environmental work is what achieves sustainability, and this continuity requires building generations that are aware of their environmental role and the concepts of sustainability and conservation behaviors, and making these environmental behaviors and values ​​an integral part of the ladder of Emirati values.

She stressed the necessity of starting the awareness journey from the first years of a child’s life, during which he opens up to the world surrounding him, and his awareness begins to form, and he is able to distinguish between right and wrong. At this beginning, the journey begins, to enrich and nourish his awareness of the awareness and behavioral concepts that work to Deepening the positive relationship between him and the environment surrounding him. Without this awareness, we will have a person who has no sense of his environment and is unable to act in accordance with the rules of sustainability, and all of this will reflect negatively on the Emirati environment.

She added: “We launched the Shamma Muhammad Environmental Program to be the basis for building a knowledge, behavioral and value entity in which the environment is the beating heart, through a continuous and continuous series of awareness-raising and educational workshops and events, starting with kindergarten children and moving up to the various levels of education in cooperation with educational institutions in the country.”

She concluded by saying: “The program represents a cornerstone of continuity, transforming individuals’ sustainability behavior from merely acquired behavior to innate behavior settled in the collective conscience of Emirati society, transmitted from generation to generation with absolute spontaneity.”

An elite group of educators and trainers specialized in the field of environment and recycling participated in the launch of the program, in the presence of male and female students from public schools in Al Ain. The program presented three theoretical and practical workshops that dealt with 3 different topics. The first was “Jay Tree” for the first episode, and the second was “So We Don’t Lose Food” for the second episode. Secondary stage: The workshop was titled “The New Old”

All schools thanked the program’s sponsor, Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, for her keenness and support for environmental awareness programs in the country.
