Until 1993 he was head of word production at the RIAS. He previously worked at Bavaria in Munich and at DEFA. The Berlin native was responsible for a total of more than 130 radio play productions in his professional career. Jannings was the nephew of the actor Emil Jannings, who was the first actor to win an Oscar in 1929.
