Jakarta (ANTARA) – The North Jakarta Health Department continues to increase surveillance for symptoms of the infectious disease monkey pox (monkey pox) in the community even though the area has zero confirmed cases.
Head of the North Jakarta Health Sub-Department, Dr. Lysbeth Regina Pandjaitan, in Jakarta, Tuesday, said that increased supervision was carried out by all health workers at the community health center and hospital level, if they saw symptoms that appeared on the body of monkey pox sufferers, namely rashes or lesions.
“Monkey pox is like smallpox, contains pus, can peel and fall off. What is quite distinctive is that it is not only found on the face, palms of the hands, soles of the feet, but can also be on the genitals,” said Lysbeth.
Lysbeth said that North Jakarta has not yet found any cases of monkey pox, so the mass smallpox vaccination movement has not been launched in that area.
“North Jakarta because there are no cases, either suspected or confirmed, so this vaccination is not carried out,” he said.

Patients whose status is suspected due to close contact will be accompanied for intervention to the hospital.
Therefore, Lysbeth appealed to the people of North Jakarta not to hesitate to have their health checked at the nearest health service facility.
The information gathered states that the monkey pox virus can not only be transmitted between humans, but also between animals such as squirrels, monkeys or mice, infected with orthopoxvirus to humans.
The method of transmission is through skin contact, mouth to mouth, mouth to skin, including sexual contact or contact with sexual organs.
Therefore, according to Lysbeth, the way to prevent it is to limit contact with suspected monkey pox cases.

The characteristics, as mentioned previously, are reddish spots on the skin or genitals.
Then limit contact with at-risk animals or people, especially those who have not received smallpox vaccination as newborns.
