In an interview before the WTT Champions in Frankfurt, national table tennis coach Jörg Roßkopf spoke in favor of a task force to stem the tide of world tournaments and title fights.

Mr Roßkopf, you were not present at the European Team Championships in Sweden in September, but you trained individually at home with top German players Dang Qiu, Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Patrick Franziska. You said at the time that you were unhappy with the players’ form because they hadn’t trained enough and played too many matches. Next Sunday, the WTT Champions begin in Frankfurt with the best players in the world. Are your players in better shape now?

Certainly. If you do something intensively for three weeks without any pressure, you can train very intensively. I wanted to make a statement. Tennis players like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who have just as busy a schedule as us table tennis players, also take blocks in which they simply practice. The matter was raised a little for us. It was a completely normal measurement. The players were happy. And we were in the final of the European Championships without the three of them. So, it’s all right.
