REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Public health practitioner Neurologist Dr. Zicky Yombana invites the public to recognize the symptoms stroke through the characteristics included in the slogan ‘SeGeRa Ke RS’. “Abroad it is known by the acronym FAST which stands for face, arms, speech and time. With local wisdom, Indonesia has ‘SeGeRa Ke RS’,” he said in a talk show related to Stroke which was attended online in Jakarta, Tuesday (24 /10/2023).
Zicky said, ‘SeGeRa To Hospital’ is an acronym for Smile, Movement, Talk, Numbness or Tingling, Myopia, and Headache which can be used to recognize stroke symptoms which happened suddenly.
A smile with stroke symptoms, he explained, is characterized by an asymmetrical and slanted smile. A person’s movements when experiencing stroke symptoms also become weaker, and they even lose the ability to move half of the body.
“Speech becomes slurred or slurred, it is also unclear. The meaning is different between what is thought and said,” he added.
Zicky continued, other symptoms to watch out for are numbness or tingling that reaches half of the body, vision becoming nearsighted, and experiencing severe headaches which are all experienced suddenly. If you find someone experiencing these symptoms, he said, the first aid that must be done is according to the slogan, namely by taking them directly to the hospital.
“Never try to prick his finger, or give him something to drink. Take him to the nearest hospital,” he stressed.
To prevent stroke, which is a disease related to heart problems, the Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) is expanding the scope of free early detection services for cardiovascular disease down to the RT/RW level in order to reduce the number of cases of death due to heart problems.
“Expanding the scope of early detection with screening activities down to the posyandu level in RT/RW,” said Director of Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases at the Ministry of Health, Eva Susanti.
Eva said that the expansion of early detection services also involved posyandu cadres through visits to residents’ homes, targeting 273.5 million households. The Ministry of Health, he continued, also involves the role of Posyandu Prima which is now spread across 85 thousand villages/sub-districts and 7,230 community health centers in sub-districts.
“We are also preparing a supporting program by training 1.5 million posyandu cadres, training general practitioners and nurses to use Electrocardiograms (EKG) and Automated External Defibrillators (AED) to check the function of the heart organ,” said Eva.
