The RTX 40 series generation update is taking concrete form. It is speculated that the upcoming RTX 4080 Super will receive a larger portion of memory. The price should remain the same.
Nvidia last used the Super designation for the RTX 20 series, but it will probably return in the coming months. The new RTX 4080 Super should receive 20 GB of VRAM compared to the current version. The size of the memory is currently in the search of the players. Many recently released games have claimed a good chunk of memory, and Nvidia is losing to AMD in this segment. Specifically, GDDR6X modules will be used.
Other specifications remain under wraps. Nvidia is testing different versions. The cut-down AD102 found in the RTX 4090 is supposed to serve as a chip. The AD103 only supports a 256-bit bus and 16 GB or 32 GB of VRAM. The RTX 4080 Super will most likely get a 320-bit bus width.
Also leaked is the price, which should be kept at $1,200. The current RTX 4080 is officially supposed to go for $999. According to the first estimates, the TDP of the card should have been below 450 W, which the RTX 4090 reaches.
Nvidia is probably planning more graphics with the Super label. The RTX 4070 Ti Super is to receive 16 GB of VRAM, i.e. 4 more than the basic Ti version. The same fate awaits the RTX 4070 Super. So it looks like Nvidia will generally focus on increasing VRAM capacity. However, other sources talk about further changes in the chip itself.
The release date is unknown, but it should not come until next year. At that time, the RTX 50 series will be around a year away from launch.
