Military wing HamasAl-Qassam Brigade, released two women Israel who was being held hostage in the region Gaza Strip after the deadly attack launched by the militant group on October 7. Israeli authorities confirmed the release of the two citizens by Hamas.
As reported Al JazeeraTuesday (24/10/2023), spokesperson Brigade Al-Qassam Abu Obeida in a statement via Telegram announced that the release of the two Israeli women was carried out after mediation by Qatar and Egypt.
“We decided to release them for humanitarian and medical reasons,” said a statement released by Obeida.
He added that the two hostages were actually about to be released along with the two original hostages United States of America (US) which Hamas released last Friday (20/10), but Israel refused to accept both of them.
Hamas spokesman, Osama Hamdan, in a separate statement to Al Jazeera confirmed Brigada Al-Qaasam’s statement regarding the release of the two Israeli hostages. Hamdan added that the two Israeli hostages who were freed were female.
“(Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu rejected (the release of the two hostages on Friday). Now he has accepted it, perhaps under pressure from the (Israeli) public,” Hamdan said in his statement.
“We didn’t get anything (in return for the release of the hostages). We released them for humanitarian reasons,” he added.
